$16M EDA Tech Hubs Award: Accelerating Virginia’s Additive Manufacturing Industry
Challenge
Virginia’s Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Tech Hub, led by the Alliance for Building Better Medicine, had built a strong regional ecosystem around domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing. The next challenge was translating that foundation into a compelling, implementation-ready strategy capable of competing for highly selective funding through the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Tech Hubs Program.
The coalition needed to demonstrate how its partners and manufacturing capabilities could work together across the full pharmaceutical commercialization chain, while presenting a clear strategy, strong governance structure, coordinated partner commitments, and a fully compliant application. With 55 Alliance partners involved, aligning the coalition around a unified approach was critical to positioning the project for funding.
Our Solution
GTC 360° Advisors, working alongside Delivery Associates through the Community Funding Accelerator, provided strategic grant advisory support to the Alliance for Building Better Medicine.
Our team helped strengthen the coalition’s competitive positioning by:
- Refining the grant strategy, commercialization roadmap, and application win themes
- Drafting the governance framework for the Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Tech Hub
- Leading the red-team and compliance review of the full application
- Supporting the development and coordination of commitment letters across the coalition’s 55 partner organizations
- Helping align the coalition’s regional capabilities with the priorities of the EDA Tech Hubs Program
This work helped the Alliance present a coordinated strategy for advancing pharmaceutical manufacturing from early-stage inputs through commercial-scale production.
Results
The Alliance for Building Better Medicine secured a $15.97 million investment from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to launch the APM Tech Hub’s End-to-End Commercialization Project, one of six Tech Hubs nationwide selected to receive implementation funding.
The project is creating a U.S.-based pathway connecting the pharmaceutical manufacturing chain from key starting materials (KSMs) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) through finished-dose formulation, regulatory approval, commercial manufacturing, and distribution.
This success demonstrates GTC 360° Advisors’ ability to help complex, cross-sector coalitions translate regional assets into competitive federal investment strategies with clear pathways from innovation to commercialization.
